A little over two years ago we had the courage to step outside the shadows of a corporate franchise and bravely try something different. We wanted the freedom to do things our way. We had been practicing real estate to the beat of our own drum for nearly six years, but we were missing a few key ingredients that we couldn’t find until we made this leap. What a leap it was. Throughout the last two years, our mission and our vision have served as a guide on this endeavor we call The ART of Real Estate. So as we celebrate our two-year anniversary, we’d like to reflect on how our mission and vision are taking shape…
Our Mission –
To be a community resource that makes the buying and selling of real estate a full-service experience that exceeds our customers’ expectations and positively impacts the Midlands of South Carolina.
We pride ourselves on being a full-service, boutique real estate team with a client-centered approach. We have several coordinators and agents that serve in very distinct roles. By compartmentalizing the buying/selling process our clients can trust someone is watching every part of the transaction. As a team, we are able to bring value to our clients unmatched by a single agent in terms of both time and finances. That is why, in the past two years, we have been able to close approximately 601 transactions for a little more than $141 million in sales. As proud as we are of the amount of deals we have done, our greatest accomplishment is the fact that 85% of our business comes from our past clients and sphere of influence. We are very grateful for the opportunity and responsibility we have each day to serve our clients and improve our communities.
Our Vision –
To be viewed as the subject matter experts on all things Columbia. People will call us for anything because we have our fingers on the pulse of the community and will be true advocates for the community.
We knew as soon as we wrote our vision it was going to be a tough goal to fulfill, and for a bunch of high achievers, we knew this wouldn’t come over night. Over the past two years we have donated 10% of our company earnings back to community events and charities. We see the impact we are making in the faces of the children who get to go to MDA camp, the smiles of the families moving into their new Habitat home, the tail wags of the dogs and cats who are at a no kill shelter, and the relieved faces of the parents who’s children can now afford to stay in the Children’s Hospital.
The past month has really shown us what it looks like to live by our guiding pillars. The floods that recently hit Columbia impacted us personally: literally our homes, our client’s homes, our friend’s homes, our neighbors and our community. Public relations aside, we knew we could help in our own special way and we did. From coordinating house clearing on social media, to delivering supplies in the hardest hit areas. We also donated over $13,000 to several flood relief funds. When The Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation needed only one presenting sponsor for their “See The Sky Again” flood relief concert and golf tournament, they called us. While we jumped at the opportunity, we still thought why us? They thought we would be a great fit noticed because they noticed how much we had been doing. Nothing was more affirming that we on the right track.
Looking back at these past two years we have gone through multiple structural changes, both internally and externally. Along the way, we have stayed true to our vision and mission because at the end of the day we sell bricks and sticks, but it’s the people, our clients/friends/neighbors, that mean the most. So on this our second anniversary, we raise a toast to you. Without your support and encouragement we wouldn’t be on the path we are on, and we look forward to the journey ahead!
In Case You Missed It: This past Sunday and Monday, we helped to host the See The Sky Again benefit concert and golf tournament for flood relief. The two day event kicked off on Sunday evening at the Music Farm in Columbia with a concert by Patrick Davis with the Distributors, followed up by Edwin McCain. The event had a great turnout, and everyone seemed to enjoy the event and the company!
Then, on Monday, we played the wettest round of golf known humanly possible at The Spur at Northwoods. Matt, Brad and Jay played in the tournament, along with some of our clients, and a few local business partners. Jay was even in the running for the longest putt on the 9th hole.
A huge thank you goes out to all of our friends, clients, business partners, and local supporters who came out to enjoy one or both events. The event raised a ton of money that will go back into the community to help rebuild after the October flooding. We are thankful to have been a part of a great event, and look forward to continue being involved in the community!
From time to time, we list a number of homes that qualify as great investment properties. Some of these homes would produce great rental income, and some are great renovation properties. If you would like to receive information about these properties, please drop your contact information in the form below. We promise not to inundate you with emails, just pass along the information. If you would like to see these properties, just let us know and we will be glad to help. Feel free to email us at any time to remove yourself from the list.
If you would like to search for investment properties on your own, please visit www.BuyAHomeInColumbiaSC.com.
We pride ourselves on thinking outside of the box, and doing things just a little bit differently than the norm. We try new things with our listings to make buyers, sellers and agents lives easier. What many people may not know is that our office is a little bit unconventional. We say this because we have yet to come upon another office that has a bar in it.
Yes, a bar. A full bar. Stocked with local craft beer on tap (this month was River Rat) in the kegerator, white and red wine, and even some additional spirits.
You may be wondering why on earth we have a bar in the office. To answer your question: Yes, real estate really is that difficult. Just kidding! No, the reason that we have the bar in our office is for a couple of simple reasons.
1. It provides a gathering place for our agents: One thing that we have found to be uncommon within the real estate industry is a sense of community within offices. A good number of the folks on our team have worked at another brokerage before, almost all of them in fact, and have said that other brokerages have a very ‘dog-eat-dog’ feel to them. Every agent is fighting and competing against one another, and they don’t focus on getting to know other agents in their office. That can be quite isolating, especially for agents who are newer to the business. We have found that by having the bar in the office, our agents, and supporting team members can all gather together and have a drink once the work day is over.
2. It provides a space for brainstorming: How many times have you heard of a new business formed over drinks after work? Some of the best new technologies were probably thought up at a bar. It’s a great space to get together and just throw out ideas. Some stick, some don’t, and some provide a platform for solving problems that you didn’t know existed.
3. It’s a great place to celebrate a closing: As anyone who has been through a real estate transaction can tell you, there are certain situations where a transaction can get a bit nerve-wracking. Once the transaction is closed, having a cold draft beer can be a great way to celebrate making it through. It’s great for all parties involved in the transaction; buyers, sellers and all of the agents.
While it might seem a bit unconventional, it’s a great way to build community among our team and the clients that we work with on a regular basis. And, for those who’d prefer a non-alcoholic drink, we are always fully stocked on all of your favorite beverages from Coke to Coffee.
Thank you for looking into more information about how to use our home search tools at www.BuyAHomeInColumbiaSC.com! This is a great resource for you, as a potential buyer, to look through homes that are currently for sale, save the ones that you like the best, request more accurate information, and even schedule showings with an agent to see these wonderful homes. We wanted to give you a quick tutorial just to make sure that you see all of the great tools (all free!) available at your disposal.
1. Creating Your Account
By now, you’ve likely made it to our home page. It should look just like the picture above. The great thing about the home page is that you can focus on creating a home search from the tool on the top left. You are welcome to do a preliminary search before creating an account. The site will allow you to view a number of homes before asking you to sign up for an account. You are welcome to do this, but please be aware that it benefits you, as the buyer, to be able to save searches and save the homes that you like the best.
Once you are ready to sign up for an account, you will see this page. You can find the sign up button at the top right corner of the screen. This is also where you will see the log in for future reference. Please be aware that when you sign up, your email address and your phone number will become your password. Make sure that they are numbers that you use frequently, so as to not need to reset your account in the future. After you sign up for an account, you have full access and you can begin your home search.
2. Setting Up a Search
This is the shorthand version of the search box that you should see on the home page. This will let you do a quick search based on a rough criteria that you are looking for. If you are looking to nail down specifics, such as garages, pools, school districts, etc., click on the advanced search link at the bottom of the search box. This will take you to the following screen.
From this page, feel free to narrow down your search criteria as much as you like. The more specific you can be, the better the results will be. Once you have set in the requirements, hit the search button at the bottom of the page and you will see the following page.
After your search criteria is in place, you will see a page similar to the one that is pictured above. The homes that you have searched for will be different, but these are just a quick sample of the homes that are available for sale in Shandon. This comprehensive view will give you the quick details that you need, such as the price, the number of bedrooms, bathrooms and the square footage. You can sort the properties based on a number of different criteria, such as newest to oldest on the market, as well as by price – lowest to highest or highest – lowest. To get more information on each of the homes, just click on the street address and it will take you to the full listing.
A full listing will look something like this. You will be able to view large pictures, look at the virtual tour (if one is available), see a description of the property, or any number of other items. If you really like the home, we encourage you to click “ADD TO FAVORITES” on the top bar above the pictures. This will allow you to save the homes that you like the best for later. It will also help our agents get a feel for the types of things that you do and do not want in a home search when it comes time to meet with a live person.
Once you see a home that you really love and are ready to go see, you can click on the Contact Us button below the pictures and virtual tour links. That will cause the box (pictured above) to pop up. Just fill out the short form, and hit send. This is also a great place to ask questions about specific properties. Say you want to know how far the home is from the nearest schools. Just drop that in the comments section, and one of our agents will get back to you as quickly as possible.
3. Other Cool Things
This page works just like the main search. Click on the home to view more, and save the ones that you love to your favorites.
4. Your Favorites
So speaking of these favorites that we’ve been talking about for so long, how do you get to them? If you’ve noticed, there is a toolbar at the top of every page after you have logged in. It will look like this.
Just click on the Favorite Properties tab to view your saved properties. Once you click on that page, it will look something like this.
If the home has been taken off of the market, or goes under contract, it will disappear from your favorites list. You are welcome to contact us if one of your favorites goes away, and we can do some research into what has happened to it. Occasionally, a home is taken off of the market to be re-listed with a new agent, or the seller will take it off of the market based on the time of the year. There have been times where they would still entertain an offer if it really is your dream home. Another great reason to reach out to us.
Please be aware that there may be pieces of the system that we have accidentally left out. If you have questions at all, please reach out to us via phone at 760-9106 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We certainly encourage you to contact us when it comes time to your home search. Working with a real estate agent is the best and most accurate way to work through finding a new home.
Finally, there are a few resources that we have on our website for buyers. Please feel free to look these over at your convenience.
