[Spotlight] Publico Kitchen & Tap
One of our goals for 2016 is to get out in our community and support some great local businesses. One way that we are planning to do this is by trying out some new restaurants around town and providing a review. We kicked off our first review by trying out Publico Kitchen & Tap, located in the Five Points district of Downtown Columbia.
Publico Kitchen & Tap opened up last Fall in the space previously occupied by Garibaldi’s on Greene Street. According to a press release received by the Free Times in August, Publico describes themselves as offering “a unique selection of tacos, burritos, burgers and salads created with seasonal, local produce and farm-raised, hormone-free, humanely raised meats”.
When we visited the restaurant, one of the first things that we noticed was the 54 beers that are on tap, as well as a wide variety of other drinks. Our meal began with a selection of appetizers, including the edamame, nachos and bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños. The stuffed jalapeños were a clear fan favorite among our team members, providing a unique blend of spices and cheese that came together perfectly.
For our entrees, we had a wide selection of dishes ranging from the Publico and Thai Shrimp Burgers to the Fried Oyster Tacos. For sides, we were given the choice between sticky rice, fries, Mexican sweet corn and tortilla chips. Most of our team members tried the fries (which went well with the house burgers) or the sticky rice (perfect with the tacos).
Overall, the meal was fantastic and we would highly recommend that you give Publico a try. They often have happy hour specials for their 54 beers on tap, as well as many other craft cocktails.
