One of the many reasons people are drawn to East Tennessee is Carson-Newman U. It's a liberal arts Christian university located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, adding liveliness to Jefferson City. The 120-acre campus is a mere 30 minute drive to Knoxville and 40 minutes to the Great Smoky Mountains. The school is known for their various academic programs, offering 50 majors and 11 graduate degrees. Look out for fans repping orange and blue, because CNU also has competitive NCAA athletics with 21 athletic teams, including their tradition-rich football team.
